The theme of Law Day 2023 was Civics, Civility and Collaboration. In an effort to promote last year’s theme, BLSA hosted a debate between UAB and Miles College to showcase civil discourse on contested topics.
The debate last year was derived from the Shelby County v. Holder decision. It was a debate between the 10th Amendment v. the 15th Amendment.
Both schools prepared to argue both sides, however the morning of the debate, we did a coin toss to determine which school would be arguing for which amendment.
After the coin toss it was determined that Miles would argue for the. 10th amendment and UAB would argue for the 15th amendment.
Ultimately, while Miles College won in the area of presentation and delivery, UAB won on legal argument.
